There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries on top of the gambling den, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
